Since the launch of WOW, the Walk To School challenge, Herne has been buzzing with excitement - and fewer cars! This program encourages students to walk, cycle, scoot, or park and stride to school, and it is already showing remarkable results, even after just a couple of weeks.

The WOW Challenge is straightforward: students earn badges for walking or using other eco-friendly modes of transport to get to school. This initiative promotes healthy habits while reducing congestion and pollution around the school gates.

Participation has been fantastic, not only in our school but also in others across the UK. According to the WOW website, “On average, WOW schools see a 30% reduction in car journeys to the school gate and a 23% increase in walking rates.”

The WOW badges are beautifully designed to match this year’s theme: Walk with Imagination. Each badge features a creative and whimsical design, inspiring students to keep walking every month! Ranging from dragons to unicorns and butterflies to eagles, these badges make every step to school feel like an adventure worth taking.

With the WOW challenge off to a strong start, it seems Herne is leading the way in making a positive environmental impact. So what are you waiting for? Tie your shoelaces and join the movement - every step counts!
